DOOM Eternal: Alec Lore

DOOM Eternal comes into the spotlight. Today we have the shots of Alec Lore and his vibrant demon slaying splendour. 

I especially like Alec's use of orange and yellow in the initial shot. The photograph feels heroic and turns the hellish landscape into a scene more legendary, bringing the slayer into the forefront of the shot. The bold use of other primary colours and higher saturation really make his shots have an instant impact. 

Whether it is DOOM, Halo, Assassin's Creed Origins or one of the many other games he takes shots from, his style is consistent and pleasing.

Community Stops the Pain

Things have been quiet on the Gaming is Wonderful front for some time but this week I had three people approach me. With the uncertainty and tension in the world, these people felt that it was time to share their stories. Today we deal with discrimination and empowerment. I hope you are inspired as much as I was by this story from a member of the gaming community. 

I don't really know where to start having never written anything like this before. I don't really do virtual photography I just play games, but I like looking at it and wanted to share my story. I want all of you VPs to know what you do is awesome and that you should keep going. People like me like the added content in your posts. It isn't respected enough as an art form or hobby. 

 My life has been alright really for the most part. I am lucky I have a very understanding Mom and Aunt who have always loved me no matter what. They encouraged me and allowed me to feel comfortable with who I am and what I have grown to become. 

I play this with my friends most!

At a very early age I knew I was gay.  I didn't hang with the girls, play with dolls and I wasn't into pink so you can remove those stereotypes, like no one would have known. I fit in with the crowd at school but always wanted to be with a guy. I had a few "girlfriends", but they knew the deal. They were close friends that pretended to be with me to make life easier. The thing was my sexual preference was never a big deal, as to all the guys I was just another guy, I was popular and I managed to have quiet relationships on and off growing up. Once I became more confident I was able to be more open and proud. The people at my new work know I am gay as does my family. I am proud and all is well on that front. Regretfully abuse does happen, especially at night but I can deal. Not that we should have to...

The thing that was hard and proved to be a challenge in my school was being black. Being black was tough in a predominantly white and racist neighbourhood. I thought this would be over when I grew up and moved on in life, but then I started to face hate in my hobby. During online gaming I am regularly targeted by racism, on forums and on live chat on my headset. Often people will throw around racial slurs, most of the time its kids and that is what bothers me the most. Kids should be educated better.  It is clear from spending time online, go to any huge forum or Youtube and you'll see some form of racist abuse. 

Beats the hell out of Fortnite.

I won't lie I am no shy lamb, but some of these comments reduced me to tears, made me question my life and the world around me. Thankfully the online communities I ended up being a part of were very diverse and accepting. They saved me, made me see that actually nice and decent people exist. 

It is this social gaming that gives me strength most days and leads me to be more confident in life. The community stops the pain. I can be black, gay and proud and maybe one day the world will be more accepting and wake up.

I am a person, I have a heart and soul. Judge me on my deeds not on my race, gender, sexual preference or my appearance. 

P.T Recreated in Half-Life's: Alyx

P.T. was a first-person psychological horror video game developed by Kojima Productions, under the pseudonym "7780s Studio", and published by Konami. The game was directed and designed by Hideo Kojima, in collaboration with film director Guillermo del Toro.

Sadly this playable teaser was removed and the game will never see the light of day. Those that played it are still haunted by the memories. Thankfully this has inspired Ambient Druth to recreate as much of the chilling demo as possible, using Half-Life's: Alyx engine. 

PC Gamer saw this creation that was entitled P.T. It already contains many of the teasers features. Ambient Druth is eager to please and says he intends to implement plenty of Easter eggs, multiple endings and much much more.

Sony to Pay $3.5 Million AUD in Fines

Today Australia’s Federal Court announced that it’s ordering Sony to pay $3.5 million AUD in fines for breaking the country’s consumer law by misleading people about video game refunds.

“Between October 2017 and May 2019, Sony Europe’s Terms of Service implied that users did not have consumer guarantee rights regarding the quality, functionality, completeness, accuracy or performance of their purchased digital games,” reads a press release on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission website. “This was false as these guarantees cannot be excluded, restricted or modified.”

The case has revealed that Sony Europe made four players in Australia think they only had 14 days to return a digital game. Another person was also informed that they could only get a refund in PSN store currency rather than having their money back.

“Consumer guarantee rights do not expire after ad digital product has been downloaded and certainly do not disappear after 14 days or any other arbitrary date claimed by a game store or developer,” ACCC Chair Rod Sims said in a statement. “What Sony told these consumers was false and does not reflect the consumer guarantee rights afforded to Australian consumers.”

Sony is not the first to be hit with such fines. Valve was previously hit by a lawsuit which made them streamline their refund system back in 2015. Hopefully now Sony will do the same. 

SEGA Sake

Tears and NAVIO will be releasing a new brand of alcoholic beverages within their Game Legends Sake series. While the idea of gaming themed alcoholic drinks is not new, this series aims to not only celebrate 60 years of Sega but also to introduce new generations to sake. 

"This is a sake series that conveys the wonderful taste of sake to the world through games where the taste and way of enjoying Japanese sake are enjoyed all over the world. Working with famous sake breweries all over Japan, collaborating with various game titles on sake, to create opportunities for people who are new to the world and those who are new to sake to become interested in sake through labels and bottles. , A project to promote and promote sake fans."


The “Hosokawa Takashi & Pac-Man Sake” will be released on the 4th of July 2020 to commemorate Pac-Man's 40th anniversary. The "GO SEGA" bottle will be released on Wednesday the 3rd of June 2020, the 60th anniversary of SEGA's establishment. "Ryu ga Gotoku" is inspired by "Ryu ga Gotoku 7 The Whereabouts of Light and Darkness" and will be released on Tuesday, July 7, 2020.

The price is 3000 yen each (excluding tax) which translates to £22.31 / $27.89 / €25.

The sake is manufactured by SEMPUKU Senfuku Brewing Co., Ltd. Miyake Main Store, which was founded in 1856 in Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. The sake lineup has been carefully selected by Miyake Main Store, which is highly evaluated not only in Japan but also overseas. They use a specially painted metallic blue bottle with the image of the SEGA logo, To define the new GO SEGA brand. 

Red Dead Redemption 2: Bittersweet Wonderful

Recently I discovered the work of Bittersweet Wonderful over on Instagram. Their work is stunning. Using depth of field and both the foreground and background to their advantage, this talented virtual photographer goes a step beyond the norm.

The use of particle effects and reflections is inspiring and extends the emotional range of the piece. 

Whether its colour or black and white the shots are consistently emotive and reflect the games setting perfectly. For more of their work, check out their page here.

Blackout Tuesday

You may be wondering why your social media feeds have been taken over by black squares.

Celebrities, corporations, music labels and sports stars have vowed not to post on their accounts on what is being called Blackout Tuesday following the death of George Floyd.

Demonstrations have broken out across the US following the death of Mr Floyd and other allegations of police brutality. police have clashed with protesters in cities including New York, Los Angeles and Minneapolis. Meanwhile Donald Trump has threatened to deploy the country's military unless state authorities stop ongoing demonstrations.

What is Blackout Tuesday?

The idea is to fill Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with black squares in an effort to encourage people to turn their focus from themselves and celebrities and turn their attention towards the Black Lives Matter movement.

Organisers said they wanted Tuesday to be a "a day to disconnect from work and reconnect with our community" through "an urgent step of action to provoke accountability and change".

If you do partake in this, please use #blackouttuesday and not #blacklivesmatter, as this has led to many important posts disappearing in a field of black squares.

Sony Delay PS5 Reveal in Support of Protests

Across social media and other avenues Sony have released the following statement:

"We have decided to postpone the PlayStation 5 event scheduled for June 4. While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard." 

Sony originally had announced last week a PS5 reveal event for this Thursday the 4th of June, which would have given us the first glance at the games set for Sony's next-gen console. In addition to the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States and the world have seen ongoing protests and riots centring on police brutality following the death of George Floyd.

In the chaotic times we face it is good to see that a company takes a time to set profit aside and allow people to focus on the issues at hand. Perhaps those normally blind to the worlds events, will pay attention to this crisis and give it some thought. 

Things need to change. 

Star Wars Battlefront 2: AJ Gaming Captures

Alex aka AJ Gaming Captures has always been one of my long term favourites on Instagram. Not only is he a kind hearted virtual photographer but also, like me, he shoot anything he plays. 

I respect any photographer that is not afraid to shoot from any game they can play regardless of whether it has an amazing photo mode or not. Too many Virtual photographers rely on the perfect photo mode and fear to stretch their talents elsewhere. I'm not talking about game exclusive accounts but those that only shoot from a handful of the popular choices. 

War Thunder, Zombie Army 4 and The Order 1886 are among some of the less popular VP choices that Alex has shot from. It is this sense of adventure and creativity that inspires me most.

Today I showcase his Star Wars Battlefront 2 shots as they really represent what he is capable of when given the tools to work with. I'm not a huge fan of Star Wars, but his shots make me want to buy the game for the PC. The colours and the portraits are sublime.
