Resident Evil Series will be on Netflix

Having been brought into gaming in my mid teens and shown the wealth that was the Resident Evil back catalogue, I was converted pretty early on. No games does B-Movie horror quite as well as Capcom and their Resident Evil franchise.

With the split between director George Romero and Capcom, they were forced to go another route with the box office movies than originally intended. Love them or hate them there is no denying how far from the cannon lore they actually are.

We had small CGI films that had straight to DVD release that were alright, but nothing has done the series justice.

Recently we have seen the news about the Splinter Cell anime and the Beyond Good and Evil series. Now we have news of a new take on Resident Evil, that focuses on the Wesker children.

An official description from Netflix reads: “When the Wesker kids move to New Raccoon City, the secrets they uncover might just be the end of everything.”

The plot of the series will be spread across two distinct timelines, the first introducing 14-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker as they move in to their new home. They soon discover that their seemingly innocent town is more than it seems and their father is concealing dark secrets that put life on Earth in grave danger.

The second timeline follows in a no so distant future. Jade as a 30-year-old, struggling to survive in a world where only 15 million people are left alive. The rest of humanity has become flesh eating horrors transformed by the T-virus, which Jade must struggle against along with her own past.

The only confirmed details are that the show will run for 8 episodes and each episode will be an hour long each.

Andrew Dabb who is producing the first two episodes alongside Walking Dead's Bronwen Hughes said:

Resident Evil is my favorite game of all time. I’m incredibly excited to tell a new chapter in this amazing story and bring the first ever Resident Evil series to Netflix members around the world.

“For every type of Resident Evil fan, including those joining us for the first time, the series will be complete with a lot of old friends, and some things (bloodthirsty, insane things) people have never seen before.”

Resident Evil 3 x Fall Guys

PC gaming is great and every now and then a game spawns a modding community that really goes above and beyond. The best example of this is Resident Evil 3, that had mods and a free camera on the demos release. It shows a level of dedication I had not seen before.

A few days ago modder XxCRAZYPOTATOxX released his Jilly Bean Mod Pack. Which puts fall guys style bean costumes on Jill, Carlos and Nemesis

As you can see by the mods page it has 147 unique downloads but only 3 endorsements, which shows you what a thankless task being a modder is. If you download it show some love and endorse it at least.

Plat Runner 03: Resident Evil HD Remake

Today we have our first guest post from a fellow Plat Runner and Trophy Hunter Garav. Having been driven by lockdown he has been crushing games and taking names in the aim of those sweet platinum rewards. Today he is speaking to us about his efforts in Resident Evil the HD Remake. Far from an easy trophy to obtain, Garav reassures us that it is not too hard so long as you take into account a bundle of tips and tricks. Now I hand over to Garav.

Personally I played the original, the HD version on the Gamecube, Xbox360PC and Deadly Silence on the DS. Therefore I am unlikely to attempt the platinum having run it into the ground. But this account almost tempted me to buy it all over again on the store. Hopefully some of you will also be struck by temptation and add this gem of a platinum to your cabinet.

The first time I played Resident Evil was maybe around 4-5 years ago, back on Xbox 360. When i got my PS4 I decided to get this game here as well since i really enjoyed it on the last gen.

When I first played this on PS4 I wasn't planning on getting the platinum. At the time I thought most of the trophies are impossible.

But ever since the quarantine started I've been getting huge motivation for platinum hunting thanks to VPVibrancy, and so i decided to try for this platinum until I eventually got it.  This platinum for me was not too hard but can take a very long time if not done right. So to help everyone who are planning to get this, here's some tips.

Tips and Tricks

• Always save your game in the same slot. This is important for the "Passion for Fashion" trophy

• Ideally you should go for the speed run trophies as soon as possible so you can get the infinite rocket launcher. You get this from finishing the game under 3 hours on normal/hard.

• Speed run in this game are quite hard, since there's no way to pause the in-game timer. I recommend watching a speed run video and making notes before attempting this.

• During the speed run you can check your notes during the door loading screens

• Once you get the rocket launcher, attempt the trophies "Every Nook and Cranny" and "Ink is for Squid" in one Hard play through

"Every Nook and Cranny" trophy description is misleading. You have to get EVERY ITEM in EVERY ROOM.

• Do every new play through from the "Once Again" option so you can select the difficulty

• You can do the knife only run in invisible enemy mode on very easy as Chris. You're ignoring most of the enemy in this mode anyway so this shouldn't be too hard.

• For invisible enemy, don't save Richard. This will make the Plant 42 boss a little easier.

• To get the "CQC FTW" trophy, don't save anyone or you'll risk failing the trophy

• Save Real Survival mode for the last. In this mode, the enemy setting is on hard, auto aim is off, and the item boxes are not connected with each other.

Real Survival tips. Play as Jill. Put most of your items in the Eastwing Storeroom box. I recommend getting the shotgun as soon as possible. As soon as you have it, don't bother bringing the handgun. Use the grenade shell for crimson head boss and acid shell for the second Yawn boss fight. After these two boss fight you don't need the grenade launcher anymore. Don't pick up the magnum. Don't save Barry (so you can have his gun). Barry's gun is over powered and should be saved for the tyrant. Only bring the shotgun (& ammo), Barry's gun, and whatever health items you have to the lab.

• You don't have access to the rocket launcher in invisible enemy and real survival.

Classic Carlos in RE3

It is times like this where I am in awe at the modding community. Resident Evil 2 was pumped full of so many amazing mods and now we have daily more and more arriving for Resident Evil 3. There are those modders out there that charge for their work. You could debate either side of this argument until the sun goes down and rises again.

Today saw the release of Classic Oliverira 1999 by DarknessRvaltier.
. You can go and download him for free here for PC. I cannot believe how well he has been realised. being a huge fan of the original it made my heart skip seeing this.

Also if you fancy using a mod inspired by Julia Voth's face (The face capture actress from the 2002 remake of Resident Evil). You can download that here

The mod also by DarknessRvaltier, giving us the options and content we wish Capcom did. On his Nexus page you can also find Jill's classic outfit, playable characters: Chris and Claire Redfield, Nicholai, Mikhail and Dino Evil 3 for those wanting to relive their Dino Crisis Days.

Resident Evil 4 Remake 2022

Capcom have now announced that the work on the Resident Evil 4 remake is in full swing. Due to the overwhelming success of 2 and 3's re-imagining, the sequel of one of the most loved games in the franchise is due to be out in 2022.

This is not a new development though as the development is being led by Osaka-based M-Two, the new studio founded by former Platinum Games head Tatsuya Minami, which has been preparing for the project since 2018. The original games director Shinji Mikami declined the offer to lead the project but has offered his informal advice on the direction that should be taken.

It is no secret that Resident Evil 4 is Capcom's most highest rated game of all time and has sales totalling a grand 7.5 million copies. It was the game that changed the mould, not only in terms of the Resident Evil series but the horror genre in general and it paved the way for many third person shooters that came after.

Building on the experimental Nemesis project and his parasite, we saw the Los Illuminados, a mind controlled horde of enemies that horded Leon wherever he found himself. This disposed of the slow paced tension and horror of the previous series and turned it into a different breed of fear. No longer were a handful of zombies a threat but instead we were faced with swarms of enemies, reminiscent of such films as Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) or Black Hawk Down (2001). The terror was far more frenzied and the horror more set in our real world fears. Surviving became less about item management and more about the fast-paced combat.

Many people seem to be excited that the new Resident Evil 3 remake is hinting at Resident Evil 4 through its references to parasites, but the original already had this content within the texts that could be found in the game and in the big guy himself. Nemesis is a T-Tyrant, much like Mr. X from Resident Evil 2 but bound to a Nemesis Alpha Parasite in a hope to increase the subjects intelligence. This gives him the ability to adapt and hunt the S.T.A.R.S. members with an efficiency other tyrants could not, while also harnessing weaponry.

Capcom also still have Resident Evil 8 in the works, which is rumoured to be first person, follow on from Resident Evil 7 and have a more European medieval setting (much like 4).

Retrospective: Resident Evil HD Remake

Here is the second post on the horror retrospective. These were originally going to be in one article like the International Woman's Day feature, but due to the quality of what I received I decided to post them separately,  giving each virtual photographer their space to shine.

Here is Gaming_kweenz on Resident Evil the HD remake. A game that will also always have a special place in my heart. The addition of Crimson heads was terrifying and seeing my favourite series, original feature get a beautiful re-skin was beyond a gift.

Resident Evil is definitely my favourite horror games. I feel that it is an underrated gem of the horror genre. It is a classic that really captures the true meaning of survival horror. The lighting is used perfectly to set the eerie atmosphere. Throughout the game you are constantly on the edge of your seat because of the unique fixed-camera angle. Due to the slow pace of the game the tension always slowly builds and enemies often catch you off guard.

Resident Evil was one of the first games I ever played. It filled me with a range of emotions from excitement to being instantly terrified.

Due to this I now have a little dark corner of my heart reserved just for the Resident Evil games.
